Agreed. Being able to apply a DS skill is often more important than having an advanced version of the skill. IMO, DS-adjacent people have SO MUCH more sense for this than people who try to go straight into DS, which is why it's such a good progression.
Engineering skills are important for the exactly same reason. They get you from idea to application much quicker.
