as a Bonus can you imagine the pain that kids would have knowing their parents put them through it? the trick is in figuring out the exact level of hardship to put kids through so theyre motivated but not horribly traumatized not even i know if im joking

okay so you have to make sure that kids can meaningfully improve their meagre lot in life in a positive-sum fashion, so the kids dont go full ya dystopia novel the methods for improvement should be non-obvious, so the kids have grit and cunning

I think competitions with well-adjusted difficulty are underutilized in our society. They could serve the purpose of motivating kids to get better. The question is how to align competitions with skills / goals worth cultivating.
