Things often spread through poly relationship networks in a way that they can't in monogamous ones. This is often bad (diseases, drama), but it can also be very positive. In particular good relationship skills can spread in poly networks in a way they can't in monogamous ones.

If you have two partners, relationship skills learned from one can be applied to another, and they will learn them in turn. Of course, this rather relies on people being willing to pick up relationship skills in the first place, and there's often too much herd immunity.

if nobody has a specific skill, then its not reasonable to expect a partner to if a decent subset have a skill, then it becomes more reasonable depending on the size so, by practicing strategic ignorance, people can avoid the effort involved in getting good at things
