Compare Yourself: https://ramble.rixx.de/2020/03/12/compare-yourself.html … Comparing yourself to others is Good, Actually. You "just" have to assume that we're all equals.

stray thought: "equality" and "better" in this sense feels like a type error like saying (1,2)=(2,1) or (1,2)>(2,1) it doesnt make sense to have a single fixed hierarchy or to have no hierarchy multiple hierarchies, depending on situation+goals feels more natural to me

I think this is a different mistake. If someone is pareto dominated by someone else (they are better at everything), they are still equal in a moral worth sense.

i dont think people have equal moral worth, and i dont think society at large thinks they do either see prisons as an example see gandi for another

i do think that people have enough different dimensions that there are no cases of pareto domination, and even if there are then comparative advantage exists

I think it is likely that there is at least one case of pareto dominance, I just don't think that's a problem.

did some math, it looks like it takes a bit under 60 dimensions to have a 50% chance of at least one pareto dominance there are a LOT more than 60 dims here even if you limit it to actually important skills and collapse location&genetic traits to a small # of dims

I'm guessing that assumes independence though. Consider for example: 1. Someone who is in a permanent coma vs someone who is not. 2. The second best person and the best person in some hyperspecialised discipline that requires full time dedication.

people with severe medical conditions are sol in general, no fix there but skills are fractal enough (have enough subsub...subskills) that even if youre the "second best" by standard measures+have let other important skills atrophy you can make a new measure that puts you ahead

but also its not like "skill level" is a firm, well-defined, and easy to measure thing, theres some vagueness, some skills that make you look better at things than you are, & luck plays a part too (i am not denying people are better at things than others)
