Underemployed nerds aren't a strategic resource, they are astronomic waste. While prescient, they are structurally locked out of the information and decision loop of all US government agencies . MBAs, law degrees and PhDs have been selecting against their kind for decades.https://twitter.com/benlandautaylor/status/1237783460816646146 …

I predict a continued rise in the clout and legitimacy of online bloggers/intellectuals a la Slate Star Codex and Marginal Revolution

I unfortunately don't expect this outcome. Our institutions are very good at taking credit for outsider thinking. Online bloggers and intellectuals have to first personalize their contributions, so it can't be pseudonymous. 1/2

Second online thinkers would have to first create and hold institutions such as magazines and research institutes to obtain licenses to think. WIRED was created by the Gen X online thinkers and has by now been almost completely captured by East Coast journalists. 2/2

Until online thinkers learn to legitimize their thinking through socially legible tokens ("jobs") they are operating unlicensed weapons grade thought laboratories. Destined to be demonized and expropriated. 3/2

Is legitimacy acquired only via entryism? Can't we all rep each other and overbroadcast other sourceS?
