The lens I would offer here, is to bring in -- what is the purpose of each specific conversation / interaction? Trying to solve this question of "what one ought to do" in a general / "objective" / "universal" case will be more difficult than the specific - or even intractable.

Ian I totally empathize & struggle myself with the signal to noise challenge - we live in a world of overabundance of information and scarcity of wisdom. Sometimes it gets very hard to discern. I wish it was as easy as determining which epistemes to pay attention to vs discard.

For me, it took many years to realize I was allergic to certain kinds of tone and expression, and had ideas about what forms of comms & knowldege was methodologically, epistemically & ontologically sound. I'm learning diff maps will reveal diff things.
