I still feel that that wouldn't do it, but my disagreement has been attenuated

Fair enough. Mostly I think we just disagree about how pervasive/strong a force fear of being seen as weird is, and we're probably not going to be able to come to an agreement on that without doing way more science to it than is reasonable.

Might be that one of us is drawing from unrepresentative experiences and it's not clear who I know how much hard cognitive work I have to put to be the least interesting on the apps and on dates I'm not *very* smart and my lifestyle itself is not interesting in any way, but >>

…I think I'm actually fairly representative in those regards

And I know that I'm not holding back because on my last 2 dates (2 diff women) I got some version of, "uhh, why are you telling me this" when my reply/reason was something like, wanting to share things that slosh around in my head because we're trying to get to know each other

Oh I think it's very clear which of us is drawing from unrepresentative experiences: We both are.
But yes it doesn't surprise me based on what we've talked about before that you don't feel this force particularly strongly.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -
I'm mostly basing this not on internal experience (though I have some of it) so much as watching what happens to more normal people when you give them permission to behave in ways that they otherwise wouldn't.

And I might be wrong about their capacity for peak interestingness. I almost certainly am being over charitable in a lot of cases. But I do legitimately think that most people are much weirder and more interesting than they let themself show.

As an aside, "interesting" (in an attractive way) is a much narrower target than "weird"; I'd agree that weird is more a matter of choice/courage. When you're practicing the skill of interesting and fail, you get weird (like my example with the 2 dates above). Something like that

By which I think I came around full circle to agreeing with you, somehowhttps://twitter.com/GeniesLoki/status/1237431227939991555?s=20 …

GeniesLoki @GeniesLokiReplying to @mechanicalmonk1 @noguchilampOh I agree. My claim is not "If you gave him permission he would suddenly become interesting" (possible but long odds), but "In an alternate life where he'd been given that permission sooner he might have been, and he might become one in future".2 replies 0 retweets 5 likes
