so seasteading seems pretty cool the main idea is that you build floating homes+other infrastructure out in the ocean lots of benefits to doing this, especially legal ones theyre surprisingly feasible to create, as well

but im also extremely on board with offshore hospitals (i do not apologize for the puns)

hmm so oil rigs create huge ecosystems around them, because barnacles grow on the sides of the pipes in order to make a floating home stable, you have to support it in a giant pipe going down into the ocean meaning homes make their own fish

so the first prototype of a seastead cost $350k to build in thailand a couple lived in it for a few months then the thai military confiscated it for violating thai sovereignty or something

https://twitter.com/no_harm_/status/1236787500833820673?s=20 … so it looks like iron fertilization is done deliberately by putting iron sulfide into water or naturally by rust particles well, seasteads are right next to a bunch of salt water so id expect there to be lots of rust

(iron is lacking in the ocean, and algae requires trace amounts to grow. i dont think itll be difficult to get enough)

https://twitter.com/imhinesmi/status/1236794517602349061?s=20 … speaking of toilets: apparently sewage is only a pain to process if it contains poop there no room for a sewage plant+limited freshwater so the solution is a toilet where the pee and poop go different places the pee is filtered the same way as seawater

or it is used as fertilizer the poop is put into sealed containers with a seed layer of microbes to break it down and remove pathogens (guess where those come from) source: https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/blue-frontiers.appspot.com/o/docs%2FState-of-the-art_report_-_Food_Systems.pdf?alt=media&token=3d19c681-0321-4086-bea7-d11e4c0da010 …

Possibly they could be used as iron fertilization locations as well, although I'm not an expert on how that works
