thinking about rituals, in the habitual rather than religious sense
@simonsarris talks about homes being a set of rituals & i think thats mostly correct
and in this sense my own home is pretty sad
id like to fix that

one weird thing that keeps happening is that i try to set up a new habit and then instead of treating it as part of the life i want to live i treat it as a burden its frustrating how the only model i grok for motivation is a drill sergeant

seems like morning/evening rituals are particularly important also meal rituals ive noticed that when i stretch in the morning i feel better through the whole day + its a good way to wake up might expand that seed into a whole yogaish thing

notably, i dont have any sort of cleaning ritual might be related to this somehow: https://twitter.com/imhinesmi/status/1231070497728802818?s=20 … but i *do* have a ritual to avoid doing things: i just overthink it forever (see tweets 2&3 in this thread for an example)

i use checklists for lots of things, and they work, but they feel wrong somehow. profane probably has to do with the drill sergeant thing earlier so how do i implement rituals without using them?

I use an excellent to-do app and I've put a lot of time into getting it set up, and I used to let it run my days. I've found that difficult to sustain. I'd suggest checking out James Clear's 'Atomic Habits'

no i already do that i just said that it feels *wrong* somehow too mechanical, rigid & i want to set up my life so that its intentional + rituals and habits are different, habits are supposed to be automatic and unthinking, rituals are filled with purpose
