it is the most rationalist thing ever to think this coffee beans scenario is a relatable metaphor for "sometimes willingness to be weird is an advantage"
I clicked on "would you eat a handful of coffee beans if someone told you it was worth trying?" because I was like... hmm, reading this line, I feel like you want the obvious answer to be yes. but the obvious answer is definitely no, because I have experience with coffee beans
yeah but you *did* try them the question isn't "do you eat coffee beans" its "would you give it a shot"
but that's re: the whole handful, not re: straight coffee beans in general! sure if I'd never eaten a coffee bean I'd try one, but I am not dumb enough to pre-commit to a handful, even if I haven't tried them before
im pretty sure this is a passing grade on jacob's test - actually trying weird things people suggest the failing grade is considering eating coffee beans (or doing other weird-but-potentially-good things) unthinkable
I am questioning the basic legitimacy of his test (by making fun of it)
I get his point this is just an extremely dumb way to make it
what would a good way look like? serious question raw coffee beans are a clear & concrete example of the skill he's looking for most weird things are nonstandard for a reason, and you need actually weird (not just overlooked) things for this example
he needs an example where displaying weirdness comes across as being worth it. the interaction with the coworker is the opposite
