hmm i really dread cleaning but after cleaning for literally 10 minutes everything looks so much nicer and im always glad i did it and its not actually that unpleasant or anything i wonder why this is

it's a problem of reward salience our minds are always projecting how good or bad various choices will make us feel, like possible futures reaching back into the present to tempt or warn us some rewards (like the reward of a clean room) aren't as salient as we wish they were

at least that's how I see it, as someone who frequently chooses short-term satisfaction over long-term progress motivational inertia is rough I think it has something to do with dopamine
