In many articles I see, it's sufficient to read the first sentence of each paragraph. My goal when writing is to make that not work.
I was talking about both nonfiction books and non-escapist fiction books. What type of book were you talking about?

Hmm...I thought you might be talking about selfhelp or management books but if that’s the case, you really think you get the essence of reading a book by reading it’s Amazon preview? My argument is that it’s too reductive you lose most of the point of reading the book

Not usually. But if you can, it's not worth reading. There are lots of books that should be decently-long essays instead of entire books, and those may or may not be worth reading.
