i see comics like this and have strange forbidden “political horseshoe” type thoughts but, really its more like there is an extra dimension to the political compass that operates independently of the normal x-y axis. i have ideas about this but am wondering what you all think.https://twitter.com/BoulderLob/status/1205650286062264320 …

for example there is a noam chomsky quote about not wanting your people to be milked like a cow by foreign investors. that could be a “right wing nationalist” or it could be a very particular type of “left wing” person, not using left wing the in modern colloquial sense. very odd

my current model for understanding this is that if your political movement involves grouping people based on “peoplehood”, i.e the french people, the korean people, peoplehood in that sense, then that is more of a “right wing” model. but [...]

if your political model involves grouping people primarily by class then you would be somewhere on the left. the strange thing is that this seems somewhat provisional (somewhat) as wealth disparity and peoplehood vary in terms of being pressing issues depending on many factors.

so for example if i was tibetan, obviously i would want to see rich tibetans and poor tibetans as on the same team because of the national situation so, if i was a nationalist i would be “right wing”. [...]

but then if i was chinese maybe the ethnicity is less of a pressing political factor compared to the extreme wealth disparity and i would be some... type of left wing person? its actually all very confusing and i feel like no model really explains it. whats the deal.

rw/lw are relative to the current political climate, they are convenient alliances, they are not Your True Beliefs use the labels however you want don't worry about reality not conforming because it can't, the words are too broad for nuance
