Feels like a form of preference falsification? There's an incentive to say that you need more things than you do (especially around people bad at boundaries) because that's an easy way to get stuff

& there's an extent to which people really do have strong preferences worth calling needs: I need food, water, and sleep. But the need-want distinction gets a real blurry real fast and it's easy to say e.g. "I need community and support"
