Our whole system should be scrapped, but that’s too hard. It’s purposefully Byzantine and everyone hates it. If only I knew the correct Jenga piece.

I kinda wonder if we were somehow magically able to make it a more transparent system whether people would be ok either spending 18% or gdp or getting way less expensive healthcare. And whether healthy people would be cool with subsidizing the old and sick.

how much of a pay cut do you think doctors would stand for?

Full disclosure I’m academic so don’t fully benefit from the grift (at least not directly). But I don’t think really anyone who can stop it would take a nominal pay cut. That being said plenty of people would still want to be doctors at 20% less pay.

I’m sure of that. But they won’t be the smartest or the most driven to discover and innovate. They’ll do finance, etc. What you’ll get are B and C students. Immigrants who can’t speak English. Okay for 90% of medicine. The problem is, they won’t know 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 90%.

The current medical system has incredibly onerous requirements specifically to weed out the ludicrous number of applicants they get, all with 4.0s in premed and high school. I don't think this will be a problem unless we seriously start cutting wages.

The better solution is probably just to stop capping the number of doctors we make each year, make costs public, then let supply&demand do the work.
