Hugging is definitely part of it. I suspect much of good touch is contextual - touch as a way to build relationships, touch as a way to calm. There's maybe a level of trust required before touch is good

Yeah...that is very difficult, I'm not sure there is a universal answer since different people have different boundaries. In general I think it requires a culture of loving trust and a cultivated intuitive sense of what the boundaries are of certain individuals

...making communication & consent so important. At ConFest (big hippie festival in Australia) there's been a shift in in recent years, towards asking "Would you like a hug?" before hugging, particularly someone you haven't hugged before. Can be verbal or non-verbal.

it almost makes me feel like good touch defaulted to “no touch” though. one thing that i am glad to see is a more visibly balanced approach in some circles re: bodily autonomy and kids and not being forced into hugs etc. even with family.
