Argument 1: "Our paranoia around sexuality is just making things worse. We cover up breasts, hide magazines, shame people about their bodies. This actually ends up oversexualizing things - like how burkas imply that the thing it's hiding is so sexual it must be contained." (cont)
Reported sexual interest is an average, not a peak. Most people really hate any given taboo act, some people really love it.

It's conceivable that there are more people who are extremely pedophilic than there are who are extremely into light bondage, but I wouldn't expect it based on the data I've seen. The rate of high interest seems to correlate with the average interest IME.

It's the middle that goes away first. Or at least, people who are only a little into taboo things are less likely to say they are, especially to themselves. I also think it's possible that taboo is in itself a fetish.
