Stoicism as practiced by Seneca and Aurelius was very different from the stoicism practiced now. Used to be about seeing reality truthfully, not being mad about it, and orienting your life to be as good as possible based on how things actually are. Now it's just hiding emotions.

Which is a shame, because some stoic practices are still useful. Remembering mortality and exposing yourself to suffering so as not to take life for granted are both good things to do sometimes.
