Caroline Orr Bueno Retweeted Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon is now amplifying a known conspiracy theorist to whitewash Assad’s war crimes and absolve him of responsibility for using chemical weapons against his own people. This is atrocious, even for Susan Sarandon — and that’s saying something.https://twitter.com/SusanSarandon/status/1129428836448440320 …

This is really important. Why aren’t we talking about it? "We may have just discovered a major piece of the puzzle explaining how seemingly independent international organizations help deceive us into consenting to wars and regime change interventionism around the world." https://twitter.com/caitoz/status/1129194527720263680 …

Diverting the conversation to focus on Caitlin doesn’t take away the fact that the OPCW confirmed the authenticity of the report. Are you saying the report is a conspiracy theory too?

Read @im_PULSE on this. Read @bellingcat on this. Read @PatrickHilsman or @conspirator0 or @EliotHiggins. Read anyone credible. Caitlin is not one of those people, yet she’s the person you chose to read & share with your followers. Be more responsible.

As many have explained, the OPCW “report” you’re referencing is a dissenting opinion of one person. It’s not authoritative. When people like Caitlin get their hands on something like that, they use it to spin a grossly misleading narrative — which you shared with your followers.

Where is the statement from OPCW that Ian Henderson’s report is just his personal dissenting opinion? The only statement I’ve seen is this one they gave saying they’re looking into how his report got leaked.pic.twitter.com/VWu1rdYGbn

So you posted Caitlin Johnstone's conspiracy theory without even checking its source material? Johnstone's conspiracy theory comes from the "Syrian Propaganda Working Group", a group of pro-Assad academics in Britain, one of him recently lost his job because of his conspiracism.

Ian Henderson, a disgruntled OPCW employee, sent his speculative assessment to the "Working Group". But when the working group tried to establish his credentials, the OPCW confirmed that he was NOT part of the Fact Finding Mission. Which means, he had no direct access.pic.twitter.com/ArT6y8gh11

That statement from the OPCW spokesperson is clearly stated in the report you are yourself amplifying. Were you in such a rush to absolve Assad that you didn't even bother reading your own conspiracy theory?

If you are going to engage in victim-blaming and mass-crime revisionism, at least you should check who you are citing. This is why @RVAwonk asked you about your source. The reason you don't cite nutjobs is that they cherrypick, they erase context, they suppress extant evidence.

Thank you for helping to lay out the facts here so others can understand how grossly misleading Caitlin’s article is, and how egregiously irresponsible it is to share that type of propaganda with hundreds of thousands of people.
