Teletext **was** a failure... in the United States.
It's failure here is a complicated (but interesting) story, that has much to do w/ the motives of U.S. commercial broadcasters, which had a vested interest in keeping eyeballs watching adverts.

Teletext was established in NZ 39 years ago, this month! The Deaf community called it an electronic newspaper as it was always changing, putting on the latest news, often before it was published in the newspaper or heard on the radio. A useful resource for Deaf people indeed!

One of the pleasing things that we can "join the dots to" now is that following on from 1996 relaunch of Ceefax, there was an entertainment news page called "Buzz"
