Sorry, Twitter. I recall translating it for myself on social media a few years back but I can't find the post which should have the source. I hope it wasn't just a dream. I suspect it's from the original Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki (Murakami) but please let me know if I'm wrong!
Just to say I'm still looking for the source - this is gnawing at me! If I ended up composing it myself that's great, but I hardly think I have such a turn of phrase within me! I will update this thread if I find it or remember.
