Failure to teach climate change is educational neglect. Failure to teach climate solutions and address eco-anxiety is also educational neglect.

To the Native families explaining to their kids why grown adults are chanting & dressing up as us today: love, strength to you. We are resilient people with diverse, rich cultures. We survived genocide. We deserve so much better. We ARE so much better.

Pleased to be part of the conversation about this with FoE. Great to see them taking it seriously

I decided that this year, every day, I would knit a row on a scarf to mark the corresponding daily temperature/weather of my town. It felt like a good way to engage with the changing climate and with the changing year. A way to notice and not look away. Here's January then.

We're not fighting for a merely "livable" planet. We're fighting for a riotous, wild, gorgeous, generous, miraculous, and life-cradling planet. And for a society that works for everyone.

Visited the Mauna Loa observatory ( which gave us the keeling curve ) for the first time with a group of climate educators and native Hawaiian cultural practitioners. Humbled, grateful, inspired♥️

“Emerson once asked what we would do if the stars only came out every 1000 yrs. No one would sleep that night. The world would become religious overnight. We would be ecstatic...made rapturous by the glory of God. Instead the stars come out every night and we watch TV Paul Hawken

We need to address all of our emotions about the climate crisis, not only for our mental wellbeing but also to remove roadblocks to action. If we can’t look at how climate change makes us feel—along with the dilemmas and difficult choices we face—we can’t solve it.

What's one thing you think you'll doing in a world that has addressed climate change that you can't easily do today? I picture myself riding my bicycle a mile to the train station (which once existed and could be brought back) to visit my future grandchildren who knows where.

Self hatred is a common byproduct of trauma. But hating humans because of the climate crisis isn't the answer. We aren't a blight, or a plague. We're nature that's forgotten how deeply we need the earth and each other.

There are days when I feel utterly hopeless about climate change. There's other days when I see progress and I think we'll prevent the worst. But there's never a day when I won't fight, because the future is still unknown and it's always the right thing to do.

Got resources for helping older kids/ teens learn skills to process eco-anxiety & climate grief? I'm putting together a list for an upcoming teacher workshop.

It’s okay to set boundaries. It’s okay to mourn traditions that are broken when you set boundaries to protect your spirit and mental health. It’s okay to take the space you need. It’s okay to feel lonely. It’s okay to miss your family. The holidays are hard. But you got this
