I just tried to pay for my lunch in an Italian restaurant in the Lake District using a credit card, only to discover they only accepted cash. Thankfully, all the staff were Polish, so they gladly accepted my 100 złoty instead. Brexiteers would be outraged if they ever found out.

With timelines slipping, Silicon Valley types say driverless cars would be ready sooner if pedestrians would "behave less erratically" -- a suggestion that has, uh, not been received kindly.

1/ Who wants to hear some scientific intrigue? A few weeks ago, a group of physical chemists posted a paper online announcing the observation of superconductivity at room temperature. Today I posted a comment pointing out something funny in their data.

Today I learned that (a) you can have default args for polymorphic parameters; and for this reason (b) generated .copy methods can be polymorphic (which they are, which I didn't know); and (c) default args are provided prior to typechecking so you can mess with them.
