    The chicken cake became a permanent feature of Chicken Bowl. Often Petra would bake it, but if she wasn't available, she'd recruit another NPR baker to bring one without my having to ask. Her tradition will live on. (Thanks to Claire Calhoun for the photo!)

    Petra Mayer baked for lots of people, for lots of reasons. A few years back, she showed up at my Super Bowl party -- "Chicken Bowl," which includes a fried-chicken-eating contest -- hoisting this masterpiece. You can tell it's Petra's handiwork from that perfectly sardonic eye.

    Gutted by the loss of my dear friend Petra Mayer, who was — among so many other superlatives — the most wonderful kind of nerd: open-minded, open-hearted, fearless and abundant and joyful in her enthusiasm. I will miss her so goddamned much.

    My right knee has been balky and unstable for a few weeks now. And as frustrating as it's been to ice it and wear a brace and whatnot, what *really* hurts is the way it's closed the door on my dream of joining the Extreme Hopscotch circuit.

    With so many famously misguided Pitchfork reviews from back in the day, it's kind of strangely bold that so much of this piece is like, "We gave this a 7.6, but really it's more of an 8.2."

    T​​hese adjustments are born out of conversations we have all the time here on staff, much like the ones happening in your group chats

    I will never win one of the PCHH pools — my colleagues are too smart — but if I were to somehow do so, my plan is to spread my winnings across four or five of Survivor’s lowest-priced, least-remembered past contestants. None of this “actual beloved famous person” business

    Here’s what you need to know: 1. The PCHH Team ran an Emmys predictions pool 2. Winner got a Cameo from the celebrity of their choice (for a reasonable pre-set cost) 3. I won 4. This made my damn day
