What sort of developer are we looking for? There's some flexibility but I'm imagining this would be a 'Base' level position (between Junior and Senior on our scale), which implies maybe 2-3 years experience with Rails.

You'll probably be a generalist but the ideal candidate will lean more towards frontend development on the engineering spectrum to help us build some ambitious user experiences.https://jamie.ideasasylum.com/2014/02/01/the-engineering-spectrum/ …

It's also worth mentioning that as a fully remote team, I hold communication skills as critically important so demonstrating that in your application would be a _great_ idea

Since I've started mentioning a few loose requirements I'm acutely aware that engineers from under-represented groups have probably already ruled themselves out. DON'T DO THAT! Instead, talk to me…

My DM's are open, my email address is first_name + "
@podia.com", and this is a link for a 15 min chat about any questions you might have about the role, the team, the culture… https://calendly.com/ideasasylum/ask-me-anything … No need to apply first: let's figure out if we're the right place for youPokaż ten wątek -
I'll be open about diversity—it's not where I'd like it to be We're 17 people in total, 12 men / 5 women, spread across the US and Canada (+me in Ireland). The dev team is all-male though and doesn't reflect our customer base

I want to change that sooner, rather than later, knowing how intimidating it can be for the first woman to join a male team. If there's anything I can do to allay those concerns before you apply, just use any of the contact methods up there

This week has been a revelation. Opening my calendar for quick chats with random people off the Internet is possibly the most un-Jamie-like I've ever done. And it was soooo worth it!

I've really enjoyed talking about Podia and being grilled by so many people via Twitter DMs and video chats. It's made me realise that I don't talk about Podia and how we work _nearly_ enough as I should do. Gonna start knocking out some blog posts soon!

The hardest thing is disappointing people with two hurdles we aren't able to overcome at this time. First: Timezones are hard. Although I'm in Ireland, all the other devs are in N. America so we can only consider devs within the timezones UTC+1 to UTC-8

(we'll hopefully be able to extend this in the future by hiring further eastwards so there's more of a support system available in eastern timezones but for the moment it's a hard constraint)

Secondly, there's lots of great devs out there without Rails experience
We're learning how to mentor each other via PRs and pairing sessions—but we're a long way from being set up to mentor someone through learning Rails. They deserve a more hands-on approach.Pokaż ten wątek -
I'm not big about specifying minimum years of experience so let's just say: if you've used Rails and you feel productive in it, then that's enough to consider applying (and if you're more experienced, that's even better).

So, with that… I'm still hiring the job application is still open https://apply.workable.com/podia/j/51DD8F12E2/ … and my calendar still has slots available next week to answer your pre-application questions https://calendly.com/ideasasylum/ask-me-anything …

We're looking for a Rails developer to join our small-but-mighty team of 4 devs
We grow the dev team slowly, only hiring 1-2/year, so if you want in on what our team frequently calls "the best job I’ve ever had", apply here
