Twitter's main contribution to my life so far is the discovery that I'm not the only one that aspires to be better at math

Also follow up - has anyone tried to do IK w/ OpenCL/CUDA given the CPU is the more common bottleneck in game dev?

I'm considering switching to rust as my go-to systems development language. First real project is an IK solver - anyone care to talk me out of this?

Quaternions and Euler angles are discontinuous and difficult for neural networks to learn. They show 3D rotations have continuous representations in 5D and 6D, which are more suitable for learning. i.e. regress two vectors and apply Graham-Schmidt (GS).

Hope that was helpful to someone - gaining weight had some pretty outsized negative effects on my mindset and well being. It's not related to vanity - things were generally harder, and my mind felt more sluggish. Really makes a difference!

And on that subject, sleep is really everything. There is literally no excuse to not get at least 7 hours of sleep. Getting 6 hours of sleep 3 nights in a row reduces your cognitive abilities to a level as if you didn't sleep at all. It also destroys your gut health /

Finally, I will add Kindness - that is to yourself. Beating myself up about things was just a negative feedback cycle. So, mindfulness plays a part too. When feeling down, meditating would give me that extra boost to overcome the anxiety of getting going to be on time etc /

It's still early - and it could just be a fluke. But I think that the magic combo is the following: - Sleep - Promotion of a healthy gut flora - High Fiber / fat, low carbohydrate diet - Frequent low-impact excercise (aerobic) - Regular high-impact excercise (anerobic) /

The microbiome (and I'm no expert) seems to feed off of fiber, which is why you're always hearing "eat more fiber" from everywhere. The thing is, if your gut isn't populated correctly then the fiber can't really do anything except not get digested by your body /

For anyone that knows me, this might be a surprise - my go to dinner is a bowl of salad, and I really don't eat particularly bad food ever. In fact, my go-to snack is literally a head of lettuce or a tomato eaten as a hand fruit. I eat super fiber-y foods, but that was the key/

My blood pressure was going down too, which is something I was pretty stressed out about. My grandpa had a lot of ailments including high cholesterol / blood pressure and all of this stuff. I was watching my BP go up to pre-hypertension and like my weight nothing improved it /

I didn't actually expect to lose weight, I thought it would just maintain it until I was able to get back into a weekly fitness routine - but then day after day my weight started to slowly go down. /

Out of everything, sleep was the most important - I would also try to walk when I could, take the stairs when possible, and exercise when I could. I didn't include exercise in my regimen because it was not quite possible - I was going through a pretty complex life transition /

In particular, how your gut bacteria can play a part in the regulation of your metabolism, this got me super interested. After getting really obsessed with Sleep, the links between diet/sleep/health with regards to the gut flora was relatively clear - so I decided to try it out/

The book goes on to suggest that things like ADD/ADHD are being re-classified as dietary problems and also talks about the links being made between early-life antibiotics and later life depression and even Alzheimers. Some of it is hand-wavy but the science was interesting /

Maybe a year ago I audio/read this book Brain Maker: which also got me interested in more bio-y stuff. The book is less about a fad diet, and more about stuff like how your gut is the source of 90% of your serotonin by way of the vagus nerve /

For the first time since I can remember, I stepped on the scale this morning and was just under 180lbs. This is after years of trying to reign in my weight, with little success from general and specific dieting and exercise. Instead what worked is a focus on my microbiome /
