I think I'd sooner see every motorist offered training about how to drive around the more vulnerable

Often struggle to explain how heat pumps work. This is really succinct and clear (and the next tweet).

I really cannot emphasize enough that the auto industry's own marketing research has identified SUV buyers as profound assholes

The point we probably should make is that *every* time the police do any of these operations, they find loads of people committing offences. The rest of the time these people are just not caught.

BIG BRIDGES! We've got a short video to introduce the Horizon 2020 on resilient transport infrastructure, on which is a partner. EXCITING BIG BRIDGES.

At the "Beyond the car: future mobility in Bath" event Cllr Wright, Cabinet Member for Transport used two slides in her presentation that really struck me. This is how we are sold car dependency. How do you stop this?

Just been reminded why I never use the Bristol-Bath Railway Path to commute. The crowning glory was watching some thug on foot barge the rider ahead of me to the ground in an unprovoked attack

Central Houston and central Paris at the same zoom. The blue is surface area used for car parking. Blows my mind every time. Have had to check the code, the data, everything and I still don't quite believe it.

So is today a good time to ask when the government will be abolishing VAT, introduced in 1973 as a result of European integration?

So here's a question. For central heating through radiators, is it more efficient to run a combi boiler hotter for less time or cooler for longer?

Anyway, just some thoughts after commuting to work slightly later than usual and beholding the vast array of massive SUVs ploughing through the countryside into Bristol at peak time. Hard to believe that many of these country dwellers had this forced on them (9/9)

Because if somebody has decided, for lifestyle reasons, to move to a place where car dependence is inevitable, I'm not sure they can complain when other people point out how they have chosen a lifestyle that forces the harms of their driving onto wider society (8/9)

And, on the other hand, how many rural people are driving around because they've chosen to move somewhere without other transport options as a way to get a bigger house, a nicer view, or the Country Living dream of spaniel-and-Aga magnificence? (7/9)

What I keep wondering these days is: what proportion of people stuck in rural car dependence genuinely had this forced upon them, by changes they couldn't control such as a cut in bus service...? (6/9)

Above all, this issue crops up in general discourse. "It's all very well talking about people walking/cycling/buses but for those of us in the countryside it's impossible to live without a car" is something we all hear a lot - usually as a way of closing down debate (5/9)

Now, this issue of car-dependence in rural communities is something that keeps coming up. It's there in serious analysis such as this lovely recent article from , for example (4/9)
