I can’t stop watching this. If I was in any other camp, watching this would definitely make me question my alliances. I’m stunned by this video. This is amazing.

Am I just becoming a sentimental old dupe, or is Bernie 2020 consistently articulating a weirdly deep and profound moral vision? I've never seen another political campaign, including his last one, that I found so genuinely inspiring and personally credible.

I somehow didn't know that fully 80 PERCENT of American workers get zero time off to welcome a newborn. The hell?

The old lines of argumentation are so set in stone - any attempt to critique them (like Baskin's) will be denounced in the traditional ways. Why not just ignore them? Just move past them and pretend you didn't even hear.

So, I mean - maybe the time is right to just turn to construction, wild experimentation, failure, praise, advocacy, manifesto, etc.

If this is right, I'm not sure what's keeping any of us from doing new stuff. Like, just exploring what we think is good and doing it in explosive, beautiful ways. The field seems wide open, and certainly a mag like The Point would be excited to publish the next steps.

My (perhaps over-hopeful?) sense is that the tendencies they rightly denounce have degenerated into kitsch, that people are kind of publishing for tenure / reviews / sales, but not especially moved by the arguments or approaches they employ.

I sympathize with this piece, as I do lots of Point stuff (e.g. 's excellent "When Nothing is Cool"), but I (genuinely) wonder how many more whip-smart critiques we need of contemporary literary culture.

And so the mudslinging begins . . . But seriously, this is a great idea.

Oh god the worst. And nothing puts a sour taste in a prof’s mouth like students who ask lots of detailed questions about the midterm on the first day of class. It makes genuine teaching and learning feel impossible at the outset.

MLK gets marshaled to talk about race, and rightly so. But he was a real social critic, with a comprehensive, multifaceted story to tell about the reasons and ways we treat each other as less than human. I wish his whole thought got more attention.

You can tell the NYT board is all about class signaling and not ideas or policy by the way they endorsed two candidates with wildly different ideas and policy platforms.
