When you look at Japan deaths and cases per population they are still VERY LOW as compared to Europe, North America.... despite Japan having the oldest population in the world. Leads me to think there are other factors involved, and no I do not believe it is because of masks.
-
Regarding cases, they don't do mass testing. You can only get tested after being diagnosed by a doctor. So no testing of people with mild or no symptoms.

People went out less too as well You can see most cases are younger (left) but most people dying are old (right) Old people don't go out drinking and carousing & are more likely to try to protect themselves anyway (令和3年 = 2021) https://www.mhlw.go.jp/content/10906000/000716059.pdf …pic.twitter.com/a7qnYKlc2c

How can breathing through a soggy filter not be more problematic than ordinary breathing. Madness. I haven't worn one the whole time.

Masking in JP. I think the mask here is a 'basic symbolic tool of compliance' that allows movie theaters, sports gyms to stay open. In short wear a mask and we can get on with things as normal. If you see someone without a mask he/she is elderly. Very little social distancing.

Great post! People just want to keep looking for ways to try to be in control of their destiny where in reality we are human. I’ve traveled all over the world in the past 10 yrs and the best we can do is build our immunity, eat well, exercise & hygiene. Natural defenses+God

It has absolutely nothing to do with mask compliance, but Japan has no excess mortality in 2020. The whole pandemic went practically unnoticed there.
-
US has no excess either for 2020.
