How large is large? One play tester thought the font size in one of my homebrew Game Boy games was too small, and it was roughly the same size as the text in Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal Versions or Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite.
One thing you definitely can't do is assume that popular games do a good job! Font size is pretty awful across the board. What your playtester was saying was that Pokémon and hamtaro are too small.
Pokemon and Hamtaro are 7px on a 144p screen, which would be like 52px on a 1080p screen. If that's too small, then what isn't?
you can't multiply up like that, because the ratio between screen size and viewing distance is different
