Yup. Literally. The whole team gets on a four-hour-long video call on Teams to review code they all wrote during the week. Somebody takes notes (conclusion reached & the filename + code line) and emails them after. I mean... it's an improvement over no code review, but c'mon.

Dev friend that only worked in startups with 0 onboarding, 0 support, 0 structure, and always getting thrown in the deep end (and delivering!) finally moves to a position in a big corp ๐ŸŽ‰ Big corp: code review is every Wednesday in a 4-hour video call with screen sharing ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

This is brilliant ๐Ÿ˜ "Huh, most of our customers don't use Infrastucture-as-Code to manage things in our product. Managing the things is really hard and IaC would really help our customers. Let's make it automated and super-easy to migrate to IaC and let's publish a guide!"

Combat the proliferation of uncontrolled resources by using #IaC to create common sets of things that folks can use & reference. Pro tip: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Set baselines that are available when people want answers to questions theyโ€™ve asked before! go.hny.co/3H5nAWP #IaC @mterhar

"I can build Twitter in a week" Read this fascinating thread and the linked thread (there are many replies; you'll have to click a lot) to see two NoSQL experts debate the tradeoffs involved with *just 1 specific API* that could be used to implement the "likes" functionality ๐Ÿคฉ

I rumbled w/ @houlihan_rick about the DynamoDB Transact API yesterday. Following up w/ thoughts here. I really like the DDB Txn API! I think it's well designed: โœ… Enables real use cases โœ… Communicates that transactions have a cost โœ… Prevents the most problematic transactions twitter.com/alexbdebrie/stโ€ฆ

Running Lambda at scale? Did you hit the "3000 instances in the first minute and then 500 instances every minute after that" scaling quotas? Now you can make your voice heard so go ahead and express your desires! Tell AWS how you want this to work!
Quote Tweet
We're looking at how we can help with Lambda burst quotas. @jhmngai would appreciate any feedback. We obviously need to manage capacity behind the scenes with what you would like, so there are always tradeoffs. #serverless #aws #lambda

Apologies, deleted an re-posted a tweet due to gendered language usage I did not like. It was subtle, but it was there and I did not like that. I told y'all to expect more chaos. That means no more tweets sitting in drafts for a couple of weeks before being deleted.

Backstage is a service catalog with some glitter on. Service catalog is "fill in this JIRA ticket with the required information and submit it" but in a nice suit and with extra code and maintenance. It'll fail for the same reasons. Fucking Spotify and their fucking preaching.

Meanwhile, enterprises with 5k developers desperately trying to fix the mess they find themselves in: ๐Ÿฆ— Desperate customers with real problems and large pockets that very few people are thinking about or considering. To be fair, longer sales cycles.

New company: develops product for a fictional target customer based on the founder's nerd dreams โ€” something like early Uber: 10x users every 3 months, 800% annual employee growth, unlimited funding New company, 2 years later: we don't actually have market fit, we need to pivot

Me, using the cloud since 2014-ish, somewhat known blogger, AWS Hero since 2019: I know AWS! Not all 300 services cause nobody knows all of them, but I am quite knowledgeable about it Me working on *a thing*: I know like one percent of two services and even that's shoddy at best

Why do female founders get pushed towards mentorship/fellowship programs funds have versus the less qualified male founders/companies that are given investments without similar strings attached. Again for the people in the back - Women are over mentored and underfunded!!!!

The fact that everyone is dunking on this code and, SIMULTANEOUSLY, not a single person has been like "I can't tell what that does" is evidence that our culture around what makes code effective at its job is deeply, deeply broken

What's the fastest way to scale containers on AWS in 2022? Is EKS faster than ECS? What's faster: serverless workers (Fargate) or to serverful workers (EC2)? What about App Runner and Lambda? Now we know: vladionescu.me/posts/scaling-

I mean I get it, but c'mon! On the one side, companies are not liable so they hide behind statements like "we suggest Stripe Tax but talk to an accountant". On the other side, users either don't know they're doing tax evasion or they don't care since prosecution is not common.
