Fidel Valdez Ramos: PC Chief, AFP Chief of Staff, DND Secretary and Commander-in-Chief. All my life as a soldier and policeman, he was my superior officer through and through. He made me Lieutenant Colonel at age 31 and handed me my first star at age 45. Rest In Peace, Sir.

If ‘MONKEYPOX’ is ugly and scary even when it is curable, I do not know how else to describe ‘MONEYPOX’ aside from being addictive and deadly to people other than those afflicted by it.

Thank you Migz. This was my position as then Chairman of the Committee of Defense and Security. For practical reasons, an office or authority under the OP can function better than the NDRRMC. A department runs counter to rightsizing the bureaucracy.

Like Japan, the Philippines is one of the world’s most seismically active areas. Unlike the Japanese who use technology as their weapon, Filipinos have remarkable resilience and their ‘Bayanihan’ spirit. Once the initial data are clear, we will extend assistance like the others.

Two tales of durability and defiance at 98: one is graduating with a master’s degree in philosophy and history in Palermo, Italy; another is taking his oath as presidential legal counsel in Manila, Philippines.

Faced with strong economic headwinds, massive delays in the country’s recovery may be expected. This is where competence and skill come into play. For our country’s sake, let’s hope the pilot and his crew can speed it up masterfully and surely.

With all due respect to all concerned, the President does not appoint ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary to head embassies and permanent missions. He only nominates them subject to the consent of the Commission on Appointments.

93 years of life and all the years thereafter, no matter how blissful or depressing, regardless of mistakes and failures deserve to be celebrated by anyone gifted to live that long.

The reason behind the veto notwithstanding, the Bulacan Airport City Special Economic Zone and Freeport is one big, fat elephant in the room that defines the country’s long standing “urong-sulong” economic policy which cannot just be ignored.

THE DAY AFTER: It was indeed an honor and privilege to have served our country with them. As we begin our separate journeys, I wish them godspeed. I hope I fed them well with honesty and integrity in public service. Goodbye, my “chickens”.

Four members of my Senate staff are joining the office of Senator Robin Padilla. My only advice to them: Put loyalty above all else except integrity. I trust that they will last beyond “10000 Hours” working under him.

Enjoying a long day with Hiromi and Sophia feeding the Silkie chickens after having fresh oysters and “binalot” for lunch in our small farm. A simple and quiet life is man’s greatest reward after all.

Food security as our country’s first line of defense from “foreign economic invasion” while uplifting the lives of our farmers in the countryside by making use of our “imperial clay” is one advocacy worth pursuing with the same tenacity as scrutinizing the national budget.

Amazing! At 98, Juan Ponce Enrile could be in the Guinness World Records forever for being the oldest government official when he steps down at age 104 in 2028, if he is not there yet at his present age.

Today, June 12, 2022, as we celebrate Independence Day, we ask ourselves the same old question: can we honestly feel in our heart of hearts that we are a truly independent nation?

Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada shows the unbalanced scale of justice in the country. Never mind the ‘guilty verdict’ for graft which he committed as CEO of the Philippines Forest Corporation. It’s the dismissal of the NBN-ZTE cases that tilts the balance. “Lex non a rege est violanda.”

As the final curtain falls upon my exit from the stage today, I am reminded of my student days when was commuting from school to home. I would tell the jeepney driver - “Para na po sa tabi, mamang tsuper. Bababa na ako. Iyan na po ang bahay ko”.

On behalf of all the retired and active military and uniformed personnel, I thank President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for looking after our welfare like no other Commander-in-Chief before him did.

“ANG SINUNGALING AY KAPATID NG MAGNANAKAW!” - how can we forget such feisty words from the queen herself, sans script or direction from anyone behind the camera. It was all from Ms Susan Roces - a spontaneous and honest expression of the sad state of politics in the country.

Praise the commanders to high heavens if we must; just don’t forget the soldiers who literally risked their lives to make the feat happen.

With all due respect to Frank and Dick, certainly two of the most distinguished lawyers the Senate has known, based on jurisprudence (Balag), the cut-off date of release is the “final adjournment of its last session” which falls on June 3, not June 30…

Either we move forward or we stop; we do right or we do wrong; we follow our path or we go astray. In the final analysis, life is the sum of our own choices.

It goes without saying, you have always made us even more proud for being such a good and responsible son all these years. Stay safe and healthy, Jay. We love you very much!

Happy birthday Ronald Jay Lacson - co-bicyclist, errand boy, adviser, chief of staff, friend & son. I couldn’t think of a better gift for you today than making you feel proud of your dad as he officially “retires his colors” next month. God bless our home.

I’m going home. After being away too long looking after the needs of other people, it is time to serve my family for a change. Enjoying peace and quiet in these challenging times will probably be my life’s greatest reward.

Last night in my beloved province of Cavite, as we looked through the window pane, I felt proud of our supporters who came early and stayed till night to see and hear their local boy who left for 50 years for a higher purpose of serving his country with honesty and integrity.

Dear God. Thank You for keeping us ALL safe from illness and injury as we finish the race to submit ourselves to the will of the people. May the bitterness and animosity be buried with the memories of the most grueling 90 days of our lives and be one nation, one people again.

Pray tell, which candidate will not be inspired by volunteers who risk their limbs, selflessly campaigning in the “deepest corners” of the country?
