Thats a hard reality sir. Like in central kol we had 20-22 SS now left with just 4-5. Lower middle class audience cant afford plexes tickets rates. Sad scenario.
There used to be six stand alone movie theatres in DumDum area. All of them have shut down. Last one Chetna closes today. At this rate in two years we will not be left with any single screens!

A car needs fuel to run & the fuel needs to be affordable to buy! Likewise, (single screen) cinemas need content that appeals to the audience they cater to and on terms that are fair to them. The studios & producers are either short-sighted or want the single screens shut.

Agreed with your point sir... A cinema needs a content n d content needs to be affordable.. Whenever there comes a content for single screen ..the content are given in a so affordable price ,by our state distributors that single screens are bound to close...

Make mass-friendly films & offer the national terms to single screens. You'll see thousands of them mushroom all over the country. Blaming the govt is silly for an industry in which a star hits a jackpot, a producer breaks even & a distributor loses on the same film.

Find it hilarious when producers & studios say that we need more cinemas! The average release size of Hindi films in this country is 1000-1500 screens, while we already have about 11000 screens! Over 70% of them (single screens) are starved for content! What will we do with more?

But also screens need to be upgraded.. the one that are closing are in sheer bad shape. Every upgraded theatre gets programming.

Forget about offering national terms, the producers want to take away the service charge on which 90% of the single screens SURVIVE today! Do it & you'll stop getting even the distributor's share from them, because they will shut shop & sell the properties!

What we need is a better grade of film makers who have the vision to cater to the 1.2 billion strong market that India is! Even a dozen of them can reverse the scenario and power the growth of the exhibition sector. Sadly, we don't even have a handful of them today.
