This whole topic just infuriates me as an attorney. I’m 150% convinced that disenfranchisement in voting, housing, and employment leads so many people back INTO the criminal justice system.

You're absolutely correct. The revolving door effect. Not to mention the lack of rehabilitation in jails and prisons. Penalization alone does nothing to reduce crime rates. It causes an increase. And when you're locked up, you're treated like a rabid animal.
