To be honest I think Single Player games are much better to make for Respawn, no toxic community to deal with, no hackers, no server issues. focus on actual story telling. its what made you win an oscar. Apex, as popular as it is, was a mistake.

Lol no. Apex took Respawn to a level Titanfall hadn't even come close to, earning them over a billion dollars earlier this year and I'm sure there's way more than that now.

I’m 17 with 0 experience so I can even try to get into these positions, however what does a “combat designer” do exactly?

It might not be the same everywhere, but combat designers can be in charge of the physics & collision so that players don't go through each other or fly away in a single punch. They also have a say in the combat moves. Whilst being programmers they still use tools & engines
