For surely there is a future, and our expectations for it will never be cut short

I had an interesting conversation with my younger brother in law and we ended up counting 5 high profile tech entrepreneurs/investors who own sports teams (NHL, NBA, NFL). So do the richest sports players end up simply working for the richest tech folks? Code over ball

Allthough it doesn’t change how I work (with my whole heart). Knowing this probably makes me a pain in the ass to work with on these problems because I push the group very hard and tend to get disappointed very quickly. Life is too short to solve problems with selfish people.

Then watch their family who have already sacrificed their loved one to the cause - suffer and smile in silence. Sadly, African heroes are gone and forgotten.

In other societies people truly ‘do for others’, ‘pay it forward’ and are ‘very grateful’ but in ours everyone is waiting for one hero to cook stew and then when the food is ready - we stab the hero in the back and eat their roasted flesh alongside the hot pot of stew

Biggest challenge with solving collective action problems in Africa is the surprising lack of clarity of purpose, generosity of spirit, and sincere gratitude you have to deal with even from ‘good people’.

Personally, I am just getting all these mad cues from God that I should probably move my global base to post Brexit UK. I can’t completely cut ties with America because I have an American wife and daughter but post Brexit UK looking mad attractive right now...

It’s a decision I respect. I made a similar decision in 2013 when Canada was not as welcoming to Nigerians and a few hundred million dollar businesses later I can’t say I regret it. Glad Canada saw the light later.

My dinner was with close friends who have always wanted to head home to build something but now feel this is the perfect opportunity to go build or join one of Africa’s fast growing tech companies instead of expending energy playing cat and mouse with USCIS.

For those asking who I was talking about in my last post, this ban means a H1B visa is no longer a path to permanent residency like it used to be.

This is a huge loss for the US, for Nigeria, and for Africa as a whole I am all for strong national security, but you can have that and have brilliant & well-meaning people in your country at the same time - they are not incompatible

We had no business sending an 84 year old with zero diplomatic experience as Ambassador to one of our most important allies and trading partners - especially with a volatile head of government. We can and should have done better.

I hope we learn from this unfortunate event and try not to turn sensitive diplomatic postings into rewards for political patronage.

Just had an interesting dinner convo about this visa ban with Nigerian tech professionals in the US. Sad this is happening but silver lining is all the amazing and experienced Nigerian talent in US tech companies who will now head on home.

Who knew one of the founders of Venmo was a Zimbabwean immigrant? Funniest part is I didn’t even know that when dude introduced us to Greycroft who funded Flutterwave from seed to Series B. Thank you Iqram
