I don't think of it as revenge. I think of it as a responsibility of the state to calmly & deliberately cull out such monsters from society

That sounds awful. I can imagine all kinds of prejudices playing out here. I'd prefer a strong mechanism to reform & rehabilitate.

How do you know society 'failed them'? Violent criminal behavior is heritable to a large degree.

if statement were true, you'd see people in horrible circumstances overrepresented in crime, such as Yazidis, Jews post WW2. Didnt happen
