The jail incident in Mumbai. Why are we speaking about prison reform more than the need to publicise jail conditions as a deterrent?

Of course there are studies that show criminals aren't deterred but then greater awareness amongst a wider circle can influence prospectives

Posters of filthy jails and filthy food should be plastered on walls and advertised on TV so that going to jail bcms a non-option.

The message should be, if your act can land you in jail, watch out.

So, what we really need is jails for convicts and jails for the accused (under trials), where conditions can be reformed.

Once a person is convicted, this means he needs subsistence level treatment. Nothing more.

Liberal Modernity perverts this common sense approach. Even hospitals are becoming resorts. So folks don't fear falling sick.

Actually prison itself is a progressive reform. It's a very bad system. As much as possible, prison should be avoided.

Instead we have the old school approach - capital punishment for VERy serious crimes, corporal punishment (whipping in public) for less

and labor/restitution for non-violent and solely perhaps white collar crime.

Gets rid of "free food and board" at state expense. Hardened criminals don't care about going to jail.

Exactly, also avoids socialization of non/less violent with more violent, and recruitment.

Do we all realise we can't live like Breivik is living today if we worked hard all our lives? Such luxury and security.

'Compassion' produces such absurdity. Kill 60 teenagers, enjoy lifetime playstation, gourmet food and exercise.
