Ramana - an annual gathering of learned Brahmans from all over the country started by Bajirao in 1731 at Parvatipic.twitter.com/Ke3mLJA3ox
In 1736 the total amt of donation given at this gathering was Rs 1600 only but swelled to 6.2 lakhs as the Peshwapic.twitter.com/hBqCPk571c
prosperity grew. The terrible impact of the Battle of Panipat (1761) is clearly seen - in 1762 the donations came crashing down to Rs 11000
As a result of the generosity of the Peshwas learned men from Shringeri, Kanchipuram, Srirangapatna, Kumbhakonampic.twitter.com/heWGNa7tNk
Thanjavur & Rameshwaram all flocked to Pune. And from the north they came from from Varanasi, Mathura, Gwalior, Kannauj. This gathering of
scholars thus represented pan Indian learning - be it in philosophy, logic or Vedic shakhas
There were Vaidikas, grammarians, poets, Vedantins, Nyaya philosophers, doctors etc who came. They were examined bypic.twitter.com/zOQCKOd1zR
the learned Shastris of Pune like Ram Shastri Prabhune, Bal Shastri, Ayya Shastri, Kashinath Shastri etc& were paid as per merit/proficiency
This is what's required - if we can get just ONE state in India to do this - would seed a revival.
