The failure-mode baked into Crossfit from the beginning is that it works better for women's bodies than it does for men's.

Crossfit barbell work isnt programmed in a way that brings anyone beyond beginner gains. Since ladies dont have much headroom after early gains, hormonally -> the program carries them relatively closer to their genetic potential. (Or you could just say it gives them great asses.)

Hmm that makes sense - I guess it became like a more hardcore version of Soul Cycle or Zumba.
