I am a mentor at a #WomenGoTech event, and there's an opening ceremony with high profile speakers like former president @Grybauskaite_LT and a networking event before - see photo.
Naturally the audience are mainly women: mentees, leaders, mentors, role models, speakers and... /2
...very few men. Bc the event is high profile the crowd is mostly evening dressed and all. Me, an often conference goer is like... what do I do, where do I park myself, how do I talk to ppl? So let's do something simple, let's get a coffee. So I get a coffee... /3
...but what now? Do I join women groups and just say hi? I mean, there are mostly women groups around, right? There are few men, suited, booted, mostly with someone they know (I guess?). No men groups around. And I am like... so thaaat is how a woman may feel at a tech event?...
False alarm. I missed a turn and went to some fashion show instead... #plottwist
