Whenever I see the word "evangelist" in regards of tech, I cringe. Sure, we have many opinions and know some "truths" about various software, but we should always go back and look at the facts. Also, as an atheist, it just feels weird.

Agree, sounds really weird. Ambassador is more appropriate in my opinion.
on a serious note, there's variation of titles and variation of roles. I.e. somebody is under marketing, smb is under sales and smb is under doc writers or even engineering. The job title can be a flavour of 'evangelist', but KPIs and duties would vary. Preaching my be optional
