I have very low energy for most conversations about remote/distributed work. We have magic boxes in our pockets that allow us to instantly communicate complicated ideas in an array of methods. Insisting we need to commute to a fluorescent box is startling lack of imagination.

Unfortunately switching to remote as an immigrant has exacerbated my isolation. I'm having to put a lot of effort into not having my partner as the only human I interact with and it's very exhausting. But apart from that, remote is great! When I did it from back home it was

It's something I always wanted to do and now having done it, the next goal is not work 40h a week so I have time to rebuild a life and a network

I really think the next step into the future of work is reducing what we believe to be full time jobs and making part time jobs more easily available. I looked into part time when I decided to switch back to studying and it was impossible

Honestly programming part-time is proving to be pretty shitty for me. You can't keep up with the team, you can't do anything of a longer-term project or a super complex task because it will span through too many sprints, if you attend a meeting or two your day is done.

It will require a whole systematic change of how we work and how companies operate to be able to properly facilitate part-time programming work. Otherwise it's too much of a burden on the employee themselves to make it work and it sucks big time.

Atm I am putting some related experiments on myself with an ultimate goal to work 4 hours a day. TL;DR: works, fun, better than 8h/day, more productive than office but now I happen to have a 7 day work week instead of 5 day =) That’s said, I am still adjusting the toggles...

I hope you find a place that supports this! I was doing because of no choice as I had a little one and no childcare so I had no chance to feel the benefits of being a bit relieved :)

aha, trying this out while I have a luxury to work as a contractor for hire by several bigger clients who like what I do. Also basically just started to save mixed feelings and results. 7 vs 5 days workweek is the only consistent thing though :P
