What is social capital? In Community/DevRel, this boils down to swag. But the power of the swag comes from the relational triangle: How do I, the receiver, relate to the issuer? (Am I an employer that expects company swag? Or a community member?) @perrysetgo #CMXSummit

Also, how do I relate to the wider community? And how does what I’m receiving relate to my current needs? (If I’m hungry, a branded cookie might mean more than a t-shirt.) #CMXSummit @perrysetgo

Cultural capital, on the other hand, is received as a result of engaging with well-known companies or associations. It could also be your accent and manners and what they imply about your background or status. #CMXSummit @perrysetgo

No matter what community we engage in, we all want to grow, learn, and be seen as knowledgeable. This requires the space to be safe and for ppl to be comfortable enough to allow themselves to grow. @perrysetgo #CMXSummit
