I'm working on a blogpost about the 5 biggest challenges that #DevRel professionals face in their day-to-day work and I'd love to hear from all of you!
What's the most difficult part of your role?
And conversely, why do you keep doing it despite the difficulty?

The double-think that is serving the community while working for The Company. Living with that split mindset and set of knowledge and empathies is the hardest part for me. Also all the logistical paper-work things like expense reports and event reports and CFP stats...

I agree re: the split mindset. It's particularly difficult if the company doesn't have the best interests of the community in mind

That sounds like a death sentence for the DevRel/Community group as a whole. If the company doesn’t actually believe community is valuable to them, why do they spend money on hiring someone specifically to care for it?

Because it's a checkbox item that every cool new startup has and we have to keep up with the Jones! Honestly though, it's astonishing to me just how many companies bring on DevRel/Comunity experts and then shuttle them off to do busy work with no seat at the table. </rant>

Oh not done with the rant... Or companies who already know what they want when they hire, don't tell the hire beforehand, push it onto the hire, then move the team around the org, impose their vision of what needs done, doesn't listen to hire, then gets upset when things fail.

I was trying to keep it to a short rant
we all know we could keep going on this for hundreds of tweets
but yes. There is story after story of DevRel pros who have been set up for failure over the past decade (and likely longer than that!) by companies that hired them.3 réponses 0 Retweet 2 j'aime
Oh nice! I see my last two years of life in just two tweets. The end is near!

Thanks for sticking it out! There's definitely been a lot of progress over the past two years. Here's to the future!
