Back to the topic: 1. Read the book. It does not have instructions on how to be a evangelist. 2. "DevRel" stands for "Developer Relations". "Relations" can't be a person. 3. I did not describe an organizational structure, that's not what is shown on the slide.

while you're in this thread. Here's a quick one. Where in the corp you feel dev rel people are the happiest? If put under R&D, sales, marketing, somewhere else?

thanks for taking the time to screenshot these. The angle of my question is however not on the business perspective, but on the actual happiness of the dev rel team. Guess I can elaborate on my question more, if needed.

Those are pretty much in sync. Once the team contributes to the business by doing DevRel and appreciated for it, the team is happy.

I've had quite a few talks w folks being either overburnt by travels or techy folks being blocked by the immediate needs of sales ppl. Also yearly perf reviews can be puzzling... Guess devrel org happiness may be tied to corp performance. But mb not individuals?

Travel is a reality, regarding the org structure. F2F is critical and you have to travel to get there. "Needs of sales ppl" is exactly what should not happen if the team contributes by doing DevRel. What you describe is doing something else – presale or something.

In many corps devrel are under sales, hence dependent on sales targets. Hence my original question abt healthiest location in corp.

I'll refer you to the screenshot
@gAmUssA did for you. The sales department is not on the list. That not only answers your question but possibly also clear up your doubts in the quality and relevance of the book.1 réponse 0 Retweet 0 j'aime
