The royals reflect rather than drive social change. But this photo would have been a stretch to imagine at the beginning of Elizabeth II’s reign: a mixed-race royal wedding, a divorced American bride, and everyone looking pretty chuffed about it.

I was a little disappointed tbh. There were a few bangers on people I didn’t recognise but the York princesses let me down by going super-understated.

I believe they *are* chuffed. William looked at the two of them with such warmth in the chapel, and the Queen is rolling around chauffeur driven with Meghan's rescue dog. That's hardly being forced upon her.

I MELTED over the rescue dog. His little face looking out of the car.

Went a bit differently that time, though! Plus the queen would still be queen by now even if Edward VIII had been allowed to marry Wallis & stay on the throne, because they didn’t have any kids.

Still, she hasn’t made Harry resign his place in the succession & sent him off to be governor of the Bahamas, so it’s progress

Yes, the fact the Duchess of Sussex is a somewhat non-conventional royal bride does not signal the end of all or indeed any problems. I’m not a royalist; just interested to observe the change.
