Aside from the obvious power balance angle: I don't know if it's even possible to appropriate a proselytizing religion. You don't need to appropriate it, they WANT you to join. If they are ever in a position to force you to join, they will.

I was raised Catholic (lapsed tho, so I'm not official or anything) and for real, none of this was appropriation. I *especially* appreciated the interpretations of the dress code with a whole heaping serving of shade like Lynda Carter's and Lena Waithe's.
