We know this sounds simple, but when people get desperate they stop thinking clearly. They take risks that can have deadly consequences. If you know someone who is thinking about bringing a container not meant for fuel to get gas, please let them know it's dangerous.

Sometimes when we put out a safety message like this people use it as a way to look down on others. We ask that instead you use this as an opportunity to reflect on safety in your own life.

Are your smoke alarms working? Do you have a working fire extinguisher in your kitchen? If you have kids, is your furniture anchored to the wall? Are your window coverings cordless? Do you have working carbon monoxide alarms on every floor of your home and outside sleeping areas?

I mean ... the past year I’ve been masking, distancing, postponing travel and fun, getting vaccinated, doing a lot of burdensome stuff out of consideration for others ... don’t really feel all that guilty about making fun of people acting remarkably stupid and selfish

I love this message. There may be some people who are desperate to store fuel for some purpose and have never heard that plastic bags are chemically incompatible even for temporary storage. Don’t mock people because they don’t know everything you do. Educate and help.

The "word" of this impending situation wasn't widely spoken of last week... when it originated. You know... "Lack of preparation on your part doesn't constitute an an emergency on my part". You can't prepare if you aren't made aware. Maybe I've misconstrued your meaning.
