It happened that way for the same reason Republicans weren’t alarmed—and threatened to attack President Obama if he raised the alarm—when they found out Russia was interfering in the 2016 elections. They understood that both attacks were for their benefit.

I think the crowd would have been thrilled to death with a flyover on his return. He probably would’ve taken the helicopter over to the Capitol anyway, just for a grand entrance.
